  • Q:35.When is the best time for babies go to early childhood education centre?
Early education should begin at birth Biologically speaking, when a child is born, the brain is only 25 percent of the size of an adult's, and is only developed enough to perform some basic functions necessary for survival. Such as sucking and crying. Between birth and age 3, the brain develops at its fastest rate, with billions of brain cells and trillions of synapses used to connect them growing rapidly. However, brain cells and synapses are not fixed structures in the human brain. Every experience of a child, from a parent's smile to a baby's journey, triggers brain cells in a specific area. Over time, the cells that were activated repeatedly became more active, while those that were never activated were pruned away. This suggests that a child's development is determined by the interaction of DNA(nature) and personal experience (nurture), and that a child's early experience is entirely determined by how the parents interact with the child and the environment in which the child is raised.

  • Q:43.What if the child always plays alone?
Observe the child’s play patterns to learn more about what kind of activities the child is interested in. Maybe plan some activities based on the child’s interest that could also invite the interest of others into the play. Observe again and see if the child interacts with their peers, look to see if there is any negative behaviours to or from the child, if not and they still play on their own within this space then they may just be at a stage where they enjoy playing independently. If issues have become apparent they would need some further observations to plan forward for supporting the child.
  • Q:44.What if the children can't have fun together?
Children have lots of emotions at a young age and can very quickly switch from laughing with peers one minute to getting upset with them the next. If the situation is continuous where certain children just find it hard to have positive relationships then maybe after some observation the teacher could support this by providing activities that would invite the children to play together and then role model to the children what cooperative play looks like and how to have fun with each other.

Children need continuity in their learning environments so the support they receive needs to be the same at home and centre to make the learning as comfortable as possible for them. Once you have gained an understanding of their toileting patterns the teacher can try to support this in the same way while they are in their centre learning environment but remembering to respect the child’s needs and privacy if requested.

Teachers can support daily routines by having conversations with the child’s main caregiver so that routines are alined making them comfortable, relaxed, unhurried and a positive part of the child’s day.
